Tragic loss. Would have been epic to see him and Kipchoge at the start line of the Olympic marathon.

So incredibly sad. He had so much promise. I yearned to see him break two hours. I just felt he could do it. This is heartbreaking.

This was the only topic of conversation going on with me during the game. My phone was blowing up. Within my many runner group chats, the much more apropos comparison was the tragic loss of Steve Prefontaine, also aged 24, also lost in an automobile accident. Kelvin’s death was further amplified by the loss of his coach in the same accident.

Yesterday was a tragic day for our running community, which as you mentioned, barely registered a blip in all the noise of a football game. Sunday, 11 February 2024 will forever be a dark day for the running world at large.

This just goes to show you how little our country cares about the marathon. This should have been a huge moment, much like John Lennon's death on Monday night football. It's one of the biggest tragedies in the sports world, that is rarely reported on our news.

That is so sad. I think Brian's comparison to Steve Prefontaine is right on. So young. So much promise.
